Two Musicians I’m Into Right Now

Welcome. I write for church leaders on topics like strategy and communication. Since this is your first visit, don't forget to subscribe to my RSS feed.

I’m always addicted to a couple musicians. The names change, but the temporary obsession is almost identical. They’re usually worship leaders, but sometimes riff-raff like John Mayer or Jason Mraz will slip in there.

Recently, I’ve been stuck on two guys from America. Both worship leaders. Both with noticeably unique styles. One is a travelling musician who’s built a substantial following. The other is on staff at a large, growing church in South Carolina.

Phil Wickham

My favorite songs: True Love, You’re Beautiful, Always Forever

Strongest lyrics: Jesus, Lord of Heaven, I do not deserve the grace you have given or the promise of your Word. Lord, I stand in wonder at the sacrifice you made. With mercy beyond measure, my debt you freely paid.

Lee McDerment

My favorite songs: Our God is Love, We Stand, Love Is

Strongest lyrics: Tell them he loves them. Tell them the truth. Tell them he died upon that cross for me and you. Tell them your story, how he made you new. Isn’t he the best thing that’s happened to you. He saved your life. He came through for you, right in the nick of time.

Phil is the man. I’ve caught some of Lee’s stuff on the internet before. Both good recommendations, bro.

I’m familiar with Lee McDerment but not as much with Phil. I love the song from the YouTube video so I’ll have to check him out. Thanks.
