Moving toward something bigger than myself.

This is Why I Run Updatable.

Welcome. I write for church leaders on topics like strategy and communication. Since this is your first visit, don't forget to subscribe to my RSS feed.

I just spent about 30 minutes talking with a client who is being harrassed by her previous website vendor. I won’t name the web company with which she is dealing, but let’s just say they’re less than professional.

The issue arose when she decided to switch to Updatable (my company) from her previous web company. At the time, she was paying almost $350/month for hosting and Search Engine Optimization (!?!?). That’s about $4,000 per year.

When she called me, she was frustrated, to say the least. She had great search ranking (#2), but her market is such a tight niche that a #2 rank was actually last place among her competitors in the same industry in the same locality.

The short story is that her previous web company was ripping her off and she didn’t know how to stop it. To solve her problem, we built her new site on our Content Management System giving her control of her website’s content. We trained her on how to use the CMS to perform her own SEO with only two minutes per week of work. We gave her more web storage space. We even educated her on how to use Google’s PPC option to do some marketing, which will do wonders for her in such a tight niche.

In all, she saved $300/month ($3,600/year) and has an attractive, up-to-date website that’s easily found by Google and others. She didn’t lose any page rankings. She didn’t lose any clients.

She did gain a couple things, however: almost $4,000 per year and a really annoying former vendor. This is why I run Updatable.
