The Twitterrific Killer [With Video Tutorial]

Welcome. I write for church leaders on topics like strategy and communication. Since this is your first visit, don't forget to subscribe to my RSS feed.

As I write this, Twitter is down for maintenance, which makes this post seem a little silly.

I’ve been using Twitterrific (not easy to spell) on my MAC for about three months. Until now, it was really the best option for what I needed to get done. However, it’s become increasingly bothersome to me. The biggest upset is its singular usefulness (post and read…that’s about it). It feels too much like a walled garden in that respect.

So, I began looking for alternatives. Twhirl didn’t make the cut (plus, it’s ugly), but back in March I had been fidgeting with an SSB (Site Specific Browser) for MACs called Fluid. It’s pretty nifty once you get it working.

Here’s the gist of Fluid. It lets you create a sole browser for each website you use. For example, I use Gmail and would like to have a specific browser only for Gmail, that way it would feel more like a desktop client and less distant. Fluid can do that for me, and this is where it gets interesting for Twitter.

The creator of Fluid, Todd Ditchendorf, put together this little video explaining how you can use Fluid, Hahlo (a Twitter client for the iPhone), Growl (built-in), and a little user scripting (courtesy of this guy) to create the best, most customizable, most useful, most attractive Twitter desktop client I’ve ever seen. I’ve been using it for about a week and it’s killer.

This video explains everything.

What do you think? Sound useful? Useless?

    Scott,

I love ya’, but you don’t own a MAC. You have a Mac.

MAC is shorthand for Media Access Control, a unique identifier for a network adapter, also referred to as a MAC Address.

    Mac is short for Macintosh.

    Share the Truth.

Ha. Thanks Rich. I don’t know why, but I’ve always referred to it as a MAC (all caps). Force of habit, really. I’m not sure where I read that, but you’re probably right that it’s meant to be “Mac.”

I appreciate your deep concern for my spelling.

Just here to help, man. And because I love you, I’m willing to step into these messier issues of your life.

I’m glad we were able to resolve that without an intervention.
